FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a grease trap?
A grease trap intercepts most greases and solids before they enter wastewater disposal systems. Properly cared for grease traps and grease interceptors keep not only your kitchen, but the waterways surrounding our community safe and properly functioning.

I received a letter from the New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board requesting a discharge permit application. What is this?
Every FSE (Food Service Establishment) must submit a discharge permit application for kitchen plumbing and water that connects with city lines. Part of obtaining the permit is having a properly functioning regularly maintained grease trap. Our experienced team can help you through the application and inspection process.

How often does my grease trap need cleaned?
Mandates are different depending on the location of your business. Orleans Parish requires grease trap cleaning every 90 days or less; in Jefferson Parish, 30 days or less. However, every establishment has different needs and some may require servicing more frequently to ensure you do not discharge grease into the city systems and to keep your plumbing working properly.

What occurs with the grease trap service?
Grease trap service is the removal of all grease, water, and flowable solids from the grease trap. Service also includes scraping and washing when applicable.

Do you also do plumbing?
While we do our best to insure the proper functioning of your plumbing, we are unable to service inlet and outlet pipes,

What happens to the septic and grease trap waste you collect?
All grease trap waste is brought to a local disposal facility and disposed of according to EPA and CWA guidelines.

What should I do if I think there’s a problem with my grease trap?
If you think there’s something wrong with your grease trap, call 504-505-2091 for emergency service. While this often ameliorates the immediate need temporarily, often the issues you experience in the kitchen are a blockage in your drainage systems which will require hydro jetting by your plumber.

You can count on Crescent Environmental Services to be on time, get the job done right and keep your operation running smoothly.
